I was refilling a couple of my working containers of whole grains; Kamut and Oat Groats specifically. The oats were from a large national grain source. With each pour a big puff of dust occurred (wish I could show you that!). Then I decided to see if our new partner farm's oats did the same...they did not. No dust at all. So I knew there was a cleaning difference.
Then I took another look. There was also a noticeable color difference. The dusty oats were pale (left photo) while the new farm oats were vibrant with color(right photo) and the photo above doesn't even do it justice!
Immediately I thought about the book I am reading, Dirt To Soil, by Gabe Brown in which the case is made that nutrient rich soil grows nutrient rich food. Additionally, I know our source farm practices regenerative farming, to foster the health of the grains they grow. So although presentation in color and cleanliness are not specifically a scientific study, it does draw attention to the efforts of some farms who work to bring us the best quality.
