Quality Sources for Good Things To Eat With or Add to Grains

Here I hope to help you connect with sources I have found and use confidently for our family. It takes some time to learn the questions to ask about various foods we would like to raise the quality on.  Whole grains are excellent staples, but there is so much more whole food available to satisfy our palate and our family to build strong bodies and minds.

Disclaimer: I do not and will not exchange an endorsement for any discount or product, ever.

My first source I will share is Happy Cattle Beef. Laurie and Mark Hannan are not only wonderful people to buy from, good business owners who are always willing to answer my questions (and I have asked a lot!), but bottom line, they raise excellent cattle with nutrition always at the heart of what they do! I met Laurie at the Athens Farmer’s market a few years ago where she wowed me with her sincerity and knowledge of her products. We tried a few items and have enjoyed everything, feeling confident we are getting high quality nutrition in every bite. Sirloins to grill up and slice thin for grilled beef and cheddar sandwiches, burgers, broccoli and beef with flank or skirt steak, all good!

Another farm whose products have been just wonderful for about the last 2 years is Southern Sunny Acres. We received this email and thought it was a good representation of Ty and Tokie.

First poultry meat and eggs and now expanded to include other meats which we are trying and finding to be great too. Always a welcome smile and ready to answer questions or hear about how you cooked up something delicious using their foods! Give them a try and see if you don't want to make up some chicken and biscuits/dumplings, chicken pot pie, grill up a chicken breast and slice thinly (no deli meat required!) for grilled chicken and pest sandwiches,  Italian sausage for pizza...let your creativity run and see what you can do with amazing grains from The Simply Filled Pantry and nutritious meat and eggs.

Hello Friend,

We wanted to answer a question that we’ve been getting a lot lately, and it’s “why does pasture raised meat even matter?” For us the short answer is simple, because we believe that it’s not only the right way to raise food, but it’s the only way.

Over five years ago, we decided to raise food because we had a desire to know what was actually in the meat and on the shelves of the grocery stores. Does that sound familiar? We wanted to know that the food we were eating would provide nutrition, keep us healthy and that it had great flavor. Unfortunately too much of what we were finding on store shelves were filled with tasteless, low quality, empty calories that left us wanting something more. So down the rabbit hole we went of what’s really in food and well it’s not very pretty. A few Google searches and you to can soon realize that mass food production always prioritizes profits over human health, much less animal welfare.

At Southern Sunny Acres we’re different. Our mission is simple to provide the highest quality, truly pasture raised meats and food for our community. For us it’s about taking care of the land and animals and that produces the best quality meat you can find. That’s why we put in long hours, do the hard work and don’t let shortcuts happen. Is it easy to move animals to pasture every day, or haul water multiple times to ensure there’s plenty for animals to drink? NO WAY! But it matters and it’s who we are, that’s why we do it. We believe when animals are ethically raised, it means they are allowed to exhibit their natural instincts. Chase and eat bugs? Check✔️ Scratch the ground and bathe in sand? Check✔️ Get to feel sunshine? Check✔️ Plenty of room to roam? Check✔️

All of this work produces the highest, quality pastured proteins you can find, and it shows up in the flavor. Because you have the right to know exactly what’s in the food you feed your family, it matters. Period.

God bless,

Farmer Ty & Farmer Tokie

Southern Sunny Acres
